According to a new study made by Olsberg SPI, the future for film and television looks bright. The industry and content investments are growing at rapid speed as we speak. Largely driven by changed consumer habits and the digital evolution. Investments in the US market alone is estimated to be worth $81 billion in 2019 (excluding sports content). Totally this number can be as high has $125 billion globally in 2019.
If we look at MPAA data, global consumer spending on theatrical and home entertainment has increased by 25% between 2014 and 2018. What’s even more interesting according to the study is that growth has been driven by episodic scripted series. The company investing the most in content is Netflix. They have already invested almost $15 billions in content, compared with Disney Studios $8 billions and Amazons $6 billions.
If we look at scripted original series produced for the US audiences, that alone has increased by 86% between 2011-2018.
